The curriculum offers choices and encourages flexibility. It includes goals and objectives for children learning in all areas of development: social / emotional, physical, cognitive, and language. Curriculum is the what, why, how and when of providing a high quality program.
Classrooms have the following interest areas: blocks, dramatic play, toys and games, art, library, discovery, sand and water, music and movement, computer (pre-k room only), and outdoors.
Weekly themes and lesson plans are posted in each classroom. Lessons include the 10 objective for development and learning.
Developmental Continuum Assessment System, which is linked to the Creative Curriculum, is a powerful tool for observing children and documenting their growth skills. This system uses ongoing assessment to decide how to respond to each child and to plan appropriate experiences.
The curriculum provides a daily schedule that balances active and quiet times, individual interactions with small and large group participation, child-initiated and teacher-directed activities.
Each classroom is staffed by full-time early childhood teachers with Early Childhood Teacher Certifications from the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care. All staff are trained in pediatric CPR yearly and pediatric first aide every two years. Full time teachers complete 20 hours of childcare related workshops yearly.
